The Office
I started watching ‘the office’ a couple of months ago and soon I got hooked to the show. The sheer brilliance of it to portray life of a lonely middle-aged man resonated with me like a tuning fork resonates at 512 Hz. There was an instant relatability factor that launched me into the fandom of the show.
The show is based in an office which is managed by Michael Scott, the regional manager and there are many different characters playing different roles in the office, namely receptionist, sales team, accounting team, customer service, HR and ware house guys. I am not really sure what jobs do Creed and Meredith perform but that is the sheer humanism and beauty of the show.
As you start watching the show Michael Scott instantly gets under your skin, everything he does is annoying, there comes a point when even his face becomes annoying. He is not the most politically correct person out there but that doesn’t mean he is not very sensitive. He is the most honest and loving person you’ll ever meet well except if you’re Toby…
As the show progresses and you are gently sprinkled with Michael’s history, you start empathizing with his loneliness, you realize, that he just needs a warm hug and wants to be loved, which makes him do all these stupid things. Because he doesn’t have anyone to return back to, he looks at the office and thinks of them as part of his only family.
When he meets the love of his life, Holly, and when he realizes that he is being loved back by the hottest woman in the world (as he puts it) you start seeing small changes in his personality which are changing him into a better person.
Michael Scott loves with all his heart, he is the most honest, genuine, transparent and beautiful person who has had a very tough and lonely childhood.
And it is not just Michael that makes you fall in love with the show but the similar experience you have with all the other characters which teaches you empathy, compassion, politeness, selflessness and love. The show never forgets to tickle your funny bone either but it also occasionally puts your eyelids under tremendous pressure to stop the sheer weight of the overflowing tears.
There is so much to talk about this show but Michael Scott just resigned yesterday so this is just me dealing with the loss of one of my favorite TV characters.
